Born in Taiwan, Yeats was interested in writing and had published lyrics and short stories. She migrated to United States, commenced for post-graduate study and started to travel throughout Europe. She lived in the mountain village of Deia, Mallorca, Spain for seven years and there created sculptured textile wall hangings. She held an exhibition and did commissioned works for private collections whilst also continuing her writing and published two books of short stories.
Returning to Brisbane with her family in l985, Yeats made a career in the Education sector until 2006, then moved to the Sunshine Coast area and started pursuing her passion for ceramic art. She graduated from Sunshine Coast TAFE with a Diploma of Visual Art. Since then she travels extensively and has been consistently exhibiting in Galleries at the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane areas. Awarded Friends 3D Award 2014 at Noosa Regional Gallery, she had also just held her solo Ceramic Exhibition, “Traces of China”, at Noosa Regional Gallery in October 2014.
As a person long removed from her original roots, Yeats is interested in producing works searching for the unity of form and surface design catching the traces of daily experience. Themes incorporate her cultural background and engage with contemporary forms of artistic expression.
Most of her works are hand-built and in the medium of translucent porcelain. The irregular forms, the visual variety and movement are created using texture, colour, form and the dialogue between old and new design ideas. The thought of creating something beyond the boundaries being abstract and eccentric attracts her to this openhearted pursuit.
